The velocipede which is the forerunner of the bicycle had a major influence not only on future technical developments but also on independent mobility behavior. Karl Drais invented in 1817 his “Draisine” to the population of Mannheim. This is a very good reason to celebrate in 2017 the 200 anniversary of the bicycle which a huge festival all year round (www.monnem-bike.de). Also a good reason to present cycling on a different way! The Human Powered Vehicle Association Germany (www.hpv.org) will organize the Recumbent World Championships from 9.-11. June 2017 in Mannheim.
Recumbents and velocars were built since the 1920 in series. Hence innovative technical design exists and in 2017 it’s time to experience this diversity of vehicles in Mannheim during the festival!
Cycling in 8 hours with a velomobile from Hamburg to Berlin? Crossing the Alpes with a recumbent? Going together on a recumbent-tandem tour with handicapped people? No problem! This special “bike-culture” offers not only technical innovations but also a relaxing atmosphere where one can see and experience the whole range of human powered vehicles.
The 2017 World Recumbent Championships welcome over 100 riders from all over the world. Disciplines like 100km, 1h, sprints of 333.33m and 1000m and an up-hill race are on offer.
Here you’ll find more information about cycling on a different way…
HPV Germany e.V. would also like to take the opportunity during the Wolrd Championships 2017 to show the huge diversity of vehicles existing within this group.
Hence we offer different World Championships categories: unfaired, partly faired, full faired recumbents, every-day recumbents, trikes, rowing bikes, velomobiles, tandems.
